Irele and Ayadi communities in Ondo state where lives were lost to a yet to be identified disease early last week are now calm with normalcy restored as no fresh case of the strange disease is recorded in the last 72 hours. According to the state commissioner for health, Dr Dayo Adeyanju, 23 cases were reported, 18 deaths recorded. He allayed the fear that the disease is contagious. Dr. Adeyanju, called on the people in the area not to neglect health facilities around them due to the superstitious belief attached to the new development.
The state Governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko said, cerebro spinal fluid, blood and urine specimens have been taken for examination and the preliminary results show that no known viral infection has been detected. final laboratory results are still being awaited to be able to fully apprehend and finally surmount the challenge.
