President Jonathan has sacked with immediate effect, IGP Suleiman Abba. DIG Solomon Arase has been appointed as Acting IGP according to a tweet by Dr. Reuben Abati, the spokesperson of the president.
Arase who holds a bachelors and masters degree in Law and also has a second bachelors and masters degree on political science and strategic studies respectively was the commissioner of police in Akwa Ibom state from 2011 to 2014. He was promoted from the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police to Deputy Inspector General of Police in 2014. Before his appointment as IG, he was the Head of the Force Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department. He was originally pegged to replace former IG, Mohammed Abubakar in July 2014 but Suleiman Abba was chosen instead. Arase hails from Oredo LGA, Edo state and is 59 years.
