Like the Star Trek paradox, I found that the even-numbered John Wick film was a breathtaking tour de force that elevated the series to a new level of action filmmaking, while the odd-numbered ones fell flat. I'm glad to report that people are still adhering to the odd-even policy. An often astounding epic, John Wick: Chapter 4 picks up the story from the relative wheel-spinning of Chapter 3, and uses its massive 2 hours and 49 minutes to deliver more stunning action, a heavier dose of humor, and even some moments of reflection and character development that may cause the pace to flag but ultimately provide satisfaction.
John's story appears to come to a possible conclusion in this film, also directed by Chad Stahelski and starring Keanu Reeves as the title assassin/avenging angel of death, though there is enough ambiguity to leave the door open for further adventures. The High Table, a global crime syndicate similar to the **(BANNED WORD)**, has increased the bounty on John's head as a form of punishment for his transgressions and his attempts to break free of their tyranny, but first we must conclude the story at hand.
