Nayef Aguerd is a Moroccan professional footballer who plays as a centre-back for Premier League club West Ham United and the Morocco national team. He began his professional career playing for Botola side FUS Rabat, before leaving to France and playing for Dijon and Rennes.
Top Premier League clubs are monitoring West Ham defender Nayef Aguerd ahead of next summer. The central defender has become a huge favourite at the East London club over the past six months. The Morocco international is only 27, which means he still has several years left at the top. Both Manchester City and Liverpool are admiring Aguerd from a distance.
Liverpool wants to refresh their defense, with Virgil Van Dijk and Joel Matip both over 30. Meanwhile, City are always on the lookout for new centre backs, as manager Pep Guardiola appears to change up his defensive personnel every few years.
The Moroccan player who is a left footed centre-back, scored and was later sent off for a rash challenge in the recent win over Chelsea. Having reshaped their midfield this summer, Liverpool will turn their attentions to improving their back line and according to The Sun, manager Jurgen Klopp could target Aguerd. Manchester City's need for defensive reinforcements is less great, but the champions are also understood to be keeping tabs on the 27-year-old, who has three goals in 33 appearances for West Ham.
Aguerd has won 30 caps for Morocco and has scored one goal. He was part of the Morocco squad which made history by reaching the World Cup semi-finals last December, although he missed their last two games through injury. At the weekend, he and his international team-mates donated blood to help those affected by the earthquake in his homeland.
