Victor Okoh Boniface is a Nigerian professional footballer who plays as a striker for Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen and the Nigerian national team. Injured Super Eagles attacker Victor Boniface will not only be missing the 2023 African Cup of Nations in Cote d'Ivoire with words rife that he would be out for two months and unavailable for his German club, Bayer Leverkusen. Boniface reportedly sustained a muscular injury in one of Eagles training sessions in Abu Dhabi and has subsequently been ruled out of the AFCON with OGC Nice striker, Terem Moffi, drafted as a replacement.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the lanky striker is set to miss almost two months of football, coming as a big blow for Bayer Leverkusen, who are atop the German Bundesliga table with a four-point gap over Bayern Munich. “Bad news for Bayer Leverkusen as Victor Boniface will miss AFCON with Nigeria but also almost two months of activity,” Romano wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “Victor sustained a muscle-tendon injury in the right adductor area during preparations for the Africa Cup and will undergo surgery in the coming days.” Meanwhile, Moffi is expected to link up with his super Eagles’ teammates at the 2023AFCON after he was drafted as a replacement for the injured Bayer Leverkusen striker.
Moffi was involved in a Round of 64 French Cup tie against Auxerre on Sunday and converted his spot kick as OGC Nice progressed to the Round of 32 4-2 on penalties after 0-0 scores at the end of regulation time. The former Lorient FC attacker has six goals and two assists from 16 French Ligue One games and is expected to help score crucial goals that will lead the Eagles towards the path of their fourth title. “Of course, he (Moffi) should be flying straight to Abidjan directly,” a close ally of the player told Nation Sport last night.
