The Kaduna State Government has begun the payment of bursary to indigenes of the state who are graduates of the Nigerian Law School.
The exercise, which commenced at the state Ministry of Justice, began with the screening of the law students, which was expected to last for two days, beginning from last Monday.
Not fewer than 150 students were invited for the screening exercise made up of April and November 2014 batches who are law school graduates. The payment was a backlog inherited from the last administration.
A statement issued by the State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mrs. Amina Dyeri-Sijuwade, said, “with the state government’s cardinal policy of giving priority to education, efforts are being made to liaise with authorities of the Nigerian Law School to obtain a comprehensive list of indigenes of the state who will soon be admitted into law school, so as to pay their bursary before they resume.
This is aimed at forestalling instances in the past where law graduates from the state were unable to attend the law school because they could not raise the funds to pay their tuition fees and purchase other essential learning aids such as laptops, or had to toil to raise the funds from other sources.”
According to Sijuwade, “this gesture by the state government is aimed at ameliorating the problems to be encountered in the training of the next generation of legal practitioners from the state, and as a demonstration of its faith in their great future that the government is working assiduously to build.”
