The fourty-seven (47) suspected members of the Boko Haram Islamic sect who were in June 28, 2015 brought into the medium security prison in Ekwulobia, Aguata local government area of Anambra State, have been taken away from the state, Vanguard reports. It was reported that the insurgents were removed on Tuesday night and taken to an unknown destination amid tight security. A source said "definitely they (Boko Haram members) have been taken out of Anambra State." This development came weeks after protests by traders in all the major towns in Anambra State trailed the presence of the Boko Haram suspects soon after they were brought into the state, although calm eventually returned.
The newspaper’s visit to prison facility yesterday showed that the heavy security presence that was mounted shortly after the suspects were brought to the town has relaxed, as the snipers that usually sat atop a structure at the prison were not seen on their duty post. The gate of the prison was reportedly open, unlike what the situation had been the case for the past three months.
