FEAR has gripped politicians in Bayelsa State ahead of the December 5 governorship election over the spate of kidnappings and violent crimes in the state.
The kidnap of Mrs. Ebifeigha Dikoro, the 104 year-old mother of the All Progressives Congress (APC) running mate, Elder Wilberforce Igiri is allegedly being interpreted as a pointer to worse things to befall strong political actors in the state.
The kidnappers have not demanded any ransom from the family, it was gathered.
The fear was heightened by the silence the kidnappers had maintained since they abducted the centenarian.
Sources said the incident had triggered the request of police protection by political actors in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and APC for family members to forestall any ugly incident.
A police source assured that the police are on top of the situation and would ensure that Mrs. Ebifeigha is released soon.
Meanwhile, youths in Korokosei community in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State are said to have engaged suspected kidnappers in a gun battle to free one Dr. Ekwueme Maduka Amirize, a medical doctor, who was kidnapped from the Korokosei Comprehensive Health Centre.
Findings indicated that the youths, acting on a tip off, decided to storm the kidnappers’ den and after the gun duel released Dr Amirize and arrested two of the kidnappers.
The Police Public Relations Officer ( PPRO), Mr Ansim Butwats confirmed the release of the doctor by community youths.
