A suspected cult member was killed on Tuesday during a clash between two groups in the Onikolobo area of Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital.
The victim of the clash, whose identity could not be ascertained as of the time of filing this report, was said to have been killed around 4pm.
The residents were said to have scampered for safety while the clash lasted. His corpse was lying in a pool of blood, where the police later picked it up.
When the body of the victim was searched, there was no identity card found on him.
But sources said the shirt he had on bore some markings, written with a pen, an indication that he was one of the students of one of the higher institutions in Abeokuta, who had just finished sitting for his final examination.
Charms were also found on him.
When our correspondent visited the scene of the incident, two vans from the Adigbe Police Division were seen.
They later took the corpse away in one of the vans.
Speaking to journalists at the scene, the Public Relations Officer of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta, Mr.Sulaimon Adebiyi, said he had to rush there, because someone called him that one of their students was killed.
But he said there was nothing on him that indicated he was a MAPOLY student.
He said, “I am here because I received a call just as many of you did, that there was a student of ours lying lifeless on the road.
“The spontaneous reaction was to confirm if the report was true or not and that was why we came here.
“But when we got here, in the presence of the police officers, as well as members of the public, we ordered the immediate search of the bag on him, his pocket and other parts of his clothes but we found some items on his body and there was nothing, I repeat for emphasis sake, there was nothing indicating him being our student.
“This is the second semester of the 2014/2015 session and our students are sitting for their examinations as we speak and there is no way a student will go into an examination hall without elements of identification.”
