The Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki on Wednesday swore-in Alhaji Baba Kaka Garbai as Senator representing Borno Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly.
Amid Peoples Democratic Party, PDP’s outcry and rejection of the last Saturday by-election poll at the district, Garbai, of the All Progressives Congress, APC, was declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, as winner of the Senatorial by-election necessitated by the death of the late Senator Ahmed Zannah, who died shortly after being inaugurated into the 8th Senate.
Garbai was sworn-in by the Senate President during plenary immediately after votes and proceedings of the previous legislative date was adopted by the Red Chamber.
While performing the inauguration rites, Saraki charged the Senator to effectively represent his people even as he congratulated him on his victory at the election.
He disclosed that the 8th Senate, being aware of the challenges it is faced with, was working towards repositioning itself to meet the tasks ahead and charged the Senator to brace up for these demands.
DAILY POST reports that INEC had declared the APC candidate as polling 75 per cent of total votes cast in the by-election, leaving the PDP candidate with about 20 per cent.
According to the electoral umpire, the APC flag bearer polled 120,639 votes while the PDP candidate got 32,346 votes.
The candidate of the PDP, Kaka Bolori has since rejected the result as declared by INEC and alleged massive rigging by the APC.
