THE legislative arm of Ughelli South Local Council of Delta State has summoned its Sergeant-at-Arm, Julius Ucharayijigho over the disappearance of the House’s mace.
The members, who had converged for a sitting at the council headquarters in Otu-Jeremi, were peeved at discovering that the symbol of authority of the legislature was nowhere to be found.
According to the Chairman, House Committee on Information, Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions, Hon. Sunday Apah, it was curious that the development cropped up after over one-third of members were to undertake their legislative duties in Section 46 (3) of the Delta State Local Government Law 2013 after the House leaders had refused to convene a meeting in the last three months without cogent reason.
The Sergeant-at-Arm, Ucharayijigho, alleged that disclosed that the top echelon of the legislature in concert with the council chairman forcibly opened the store the mace was purportedly kept and made away with it several months ago.
The councilors have, however, reported the incident at the Otu-Jeremi Police Station where the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), CSP Oghenebaro, ordered immediate investigation into the incident while the Sergeant-at Arm was reportedly detained briefly and the store cordoned off to allow for gathering of more information.
