Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State has appointed Professor Fidelis Njokanma as the Acting Vice Chancellor of the Lagos State University, LASU, pending the appointment of a substantive VC.
Njokanma, a Pediatrician, was until his appointment the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration) of the institution.
The appointment came less than a week after the expiration of the former Vice Chancellor, Prof John Obafunwa’s tenure on October 31st, 2015.
Obafunwa was appointed the 7th VC of institution by the immediate past governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola on November 1, 2011.
The governor’s approval was contained in a letter referenced SAE/HED/S.145/Vol II/201 addressed to the institution’s registrar, Mr. Lewis Oladapo, demanding that the Njokanma resumes office in acting capacity immediately.
Njokanma, a former Head of Department of Pediatrics, Lagos State University College of Medicine(LASUCOM), was a two-term Deputy Provost of LASUCOM, Ikeja between 2008-2010 and 2010-2012.
He has also served as Dean, Faculty of Clinical Sciences from 2012 to February 2014.
