THE governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano has demonstrated his commitment to turn the state into a centre for medical excellence in Nigeria with the commissioning of the newly transformed and fully equipped Orumba General Hospital in Ajalli.
Obiano acknowledging cheers from his supporters at a recent function in the state.
The hospital project is one of the four model hospitals singled out by Rise Health Corporation USA for extensive modernization and upgrade in partnership with the government of Anambra State. The other three selected hospitals are Rise Clinic Adazi-Enu, Rise Clinic Onitsha and Rise Clinic, Ossomala in Ogbaru, Local Council.
Commissioning the hospital, Governor Obiano restated that Health is an important enabler in his administration’s agenda and that he is committed to making the health sector in the state a reference point in Nigeria.
According to him, his administration’s approach to health is broken down into Infrastructure, comfort of patients, and Welfare of healthcare givers.
Governor Obiano recounted that prior to his assumption of office, the state’s School of Nursing was not accredited, but after robust efforts and fulfilling the requirements, it was accredited with the state now producing midwives and nurses.
He further added that under his watch and robust efforts, the first set of medical students from the state university who had stayed up to 10 years in the university owing to accreditation issues would bag their medical degrees this month. He expressed the hope that some of these new graduates would make up the manpower pool for the hospitals that are being modernised across the state.
He further disclosed that the newly re-engineered Orumba General Hospital has facilities to accommodate 100 persons at a time and assured that his administration in partnership with RISE clinic is also carrying out extensive renovation on General Hospital in Onitsha, Ekwulobia and Enugwu Ukwu while Open Heart Surgeries are now regularly carried out in Rise Clinic Adazi-Enu.
