A former Technical Director of the Nigeria Football Federation Kashimawo Laloko has said the federation should empower the current Technical Director Shuaibu Amodu to help the national coach Sunday Oliseh to succeed.
Laloko, who spoke to our correspondent on the telephone, said the development of Nigerian football should not be left to Oliseh alone.
He said Amodu should be allowed to play his role as the technical director, adding that Nigeria has many talented players who have not been discovered.
“If they allow Shuaibu Amodu to do his job, and give him some powers, he will work. If it is the national coach that will be in charge of everything, it will not augur well for the development of our football,” Laloko said.
“Don’t tell me that the players are not there. The players are there but we are not looking for them. Go to Rumfa College, Kano on a Saturday morning and you will see over 1,000 children playing football. That place alone can provide players for six youth teams for Nigeria. Go to different places in the North like Sokoto and Kaduna and see fantastic young players.
“In the South East, go to Owerri, where we discovered Nwankwo Kanu, and Aba, and you will see many talented players. Go to Ibadan, around Sabo area, every evening and you will see boys playing good football.”
Laloko, who is the Director of Pepsi Football Academy, also lamented that football development in the country has been destroyed due to the conversion of playing grounds into other uses.
He added that there was the need for football authorities to return to schools and properly-run football academies in search for football talents for the national teams.
