The elections petitions tribunal sitting in Abuja has declared Aisha Jummai Alhassan of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the duly elected governor of Taraba state, thus sacking Darius Ishaku of the Peoples Democratic Party.
Mama Taraba as she is fondly called will become the first elected female governor in Nigeria. She is expected to relinquish her position as a minister as she was recently cleared by the Senate and was part of the retreat organised for ministers-designate by the president in Abuja.
However, there are indications that Ishaku will appeal the verdict of the tribunal.
