Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has said he will never ridicule the judiciary and has at no time authorised anybody to make uncomplimentary remarks about the third arm of government.
Wike made this remark on Monday while reacting to a fake Facebook account posting portraying him as criticising the judgment of the Taraba State Governorship Election Tribunal.
The governor, who spoke through a statement signed by his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mr. Simeon Nwakaudu, and issued in Port Harcourt, maintained that he did not run any of such Facebook page where negative remarks were made.
He advised Nigerians to disregard such fake social media posting, insisting that it was not from him and urged social media platforms and blogs publishing the post from the fake Facebook page to pull it down.
According to him, “Only last week, Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike at a well publicised stakeholders’ meeting at the Government House, Port Harcourt, declared that he had never authorised any aide to make uncomplimentary remarks on the Judiciary.
“The governor as a lawyer respects the Judiciary and will never disparage it. Nigerians have been advised to disregard a fake Facebook posting criticising the judgment of the Taraba State Governorship Election Tribunal judgment as Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike does not run any such Facebook page where the uncomplimentary remarks were made.
“All the social media platforms and blogs publishing the post from the fake Facebook page, ‘Nyesom Wike’ are urged to pull down same as they do not represent the views of Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike.”
The governor, however, attributed the move to deceive members of the public through the use of a fake Facebook page to the opposition in the state, adding that he would never be distracted by such political schemes.
He said, “This is yet another scheme by the opposition to use unverified social media platforms to mislead members of the public. Governor Wike will never be distracted by these unfortunate illegal political schemes.”
