EXECUTIVE Secretary of Surulere Local Government Area, LGA, Mrs. Aduke Hussein has said that the Lagos State ban on commercial motorcycles, Okada, has not been relaxed in Surulere, calling on residents of the LGA to avoid flouting the state traffic law.
This came as the lawmaker representing Surulere Constituency 1, in Lagos the State House of Assembly, Mr. Desmond Elliot urged his constituents to support the efforts of the state government at making Lagos the model of all states.
The duo spoke at an interactive forum yesterday in Lagos, which was also carried out simultaneously across the 40 constituencies in the state.
According to Hussein, ”Okada was never banned in Surulere but was restricted to the streets from major express roads and high way. They are allowed to operate within the streets of the local government and our inner roads. We are controlling them through their various associations.”
On his part, Elliot said that it is a civic and constitutional responsibility of the people to decide what they want for posterity.
His words: “Before any law could come into effect, we believe the people must be consulted to express their opinions and it is in consonance with this that the principal members in the House came up with the idea of today’s Constituency Stakeholders Meeting to enable us sit together, meet minds and obtain firsthand information concerning affairs and needs of the people.”
