CHAIRMAN of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Ogun State chapter, Comrade Akeem Ambali has accused State governments of being responsible for what he described as the “comatose” situation in which the local governments in the country are at present.
Ambali who spoke to The Guardian in Abeokuta yesterday said, “It is so sad that many of the 774 Local Governments in the country are in a comatose situation because some of the State Governments have stifled their growth and development using the instrumentality of the Joint Account Allocation Committee (JAAC).”
He therefore called on President Mohammadu Buhari-led administration to, as a matter of urgency use legal means to reverse the trend.
According to him some State Governors had taken over the management of the revenues of their Councils and “that is why the Local government system can’t deliver on their constitutional roles and functions.”
