IN an effort to sanitise the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Comptroller-General of the Service, Col. Hameed Ibrahim Ali (rtd), has warned officers and men that anyone indicted of indiscipline and corruption would be made to face the full wrath of the law.
Hameed, who spoke in Kano while addressing officers of the command insisted that officers under his watch must rid themselves of corruption or be prepared to face maximum of 10 years imprisonment.
Speaking on the new policy of the Federal Government, the Customs boss said the era of indiscipline, undeserved promotion and deployment to “juicy commands” are over.
Hameed said, “The system cannot continue. We are seen as corrupt officers because we prefer to collect bribe. Hundreds of trucks move into Kano on daily basis, but we don’t bother to check them irrespective of what they carry, just because of our corrupt tendencies. Henceforth, anybody caught collecting bribe or involved in any act of indiscipline will be investigated and if found guilty would be dealt with ruthlessly.”
