The Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company recorded the highest number of consumer complaints between January and March this year, figures contained in the third quarter report of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission have shown.

Specifically, 30,084 customers tabled various complaints about the power firm during the period.

The latest edition of NERC’s Power Watch publication, which was obtained by our correspondent in Abuja on Thursday, showed that of the 11 electricity distribution companies captured in the analysis, the Ikeja Disco alone accounted for 43.3 per cent of the total complaints recorded.

Persistent power interruptions recorded the highest number of complaints, as the firm registered 4,585 cases of such complaints during the period under review.

According to NERC, the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company recorded the second highest number of consumer complaints in the first quarter of the year.

A total of 9,710 cases were recorded by the firm during the review period, while it also registered 3,328 complaints on power interruption.

All the 11 power distribution firms recorded customer complaints during the period. However, the Yola Electricity Distribution Company had the least number of complaints at 1,088 for the three-month period reviewed by NERC.

The report, however, noted that the firms were able to resolve some of the complaints.

The Ikeja Disco, for instance, resolved 24,819 complaints, while 5,262 cases could not be resolved.

The Abuja Disco resolved 8,908 cases, while 802 were left unresolved, according to the NERC report.
