Telecommunications service provider, Airtel Nigeria, has inaugurated a mobile education platform to enhance learning for pupils.
The device known as Airtel SmartTrybe Junior, the company says, is for primary and secondary pupils, who are aged between five and 16.
The Chief Commercial Officer, Mr. Ahmed Mokhles, stated this while unveiling the tool in Lagos.
According to him, the device has three of the major aspects of education – audio visual, textbooks and offers more than 120 courses for pupils.
The initiative, he added, was a part of the company’s contribution towards the development of the nation’s educational sector.
Mokhles said, “Our aim is to make learning fun for these kids and for them to gain deeper understanding of what they learn in school, using the device. They will also have access to a huge repertory of learning materials, which will enhance their understanding of the subjects in their school curriculum and spur them onto academic excellence.
“At Airtel, we are committed to helping our customers including children and youths to succeed in their endeavours.”
Noting that the tool offers a 3D interactive multimedia- based learning environment, Mokhles explained that it had an engaging animations of laboratory experiments as well as lecture notes, textbooks and key points and definitions presented as quick-study Flash Cards.
Evans Publishers, he added, developed the device, which had the approval of the Federal Ministry of Education, in line with the current academic curriculum in Nigerian schools.
Other features in the tool include a continuous assessment component that enables pupils to test their understanding of topics on a chapter-by-chapter basis as well as the exam prep component, which helps them to prepare for promotional exams at every level.
Adding that it had an exciting parent-child offers, Mokhles said that pupils using the tabs enjoyed free calls and SMS to their parents.
