The Save Nigeria Group (SNG) has given President Muhammadu Buhari ultimatum on Monday, November 16.

Vanguard reports that the group warned Buhari that it would mobilise Nigerians for “a torrential protest march”, if he failed to sack Justice Danladi Umar, the chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) within the next 72 hours.

Speaking at a press conference held on Sunday, November 15, in Abuja, the SNG noted that Justice Umar has questions to answer over allegation that he demanded N10million bribe to quash ‎criminal case involving a retired deputy comptroller of customs, Rasheed A. Taiwo.

In a statement signed by Barrister Benedict Ezeagu, the SNG national coordinator, called on President Buhari to operate in coordination with the leadership of the National Assembly to effect the formal removal of Umar as CCT chairman.

According to the group, Umar must be removed without delay and in accordance with the constitutional provisions.

“This will ‎no doubt be a litmus test of President Buhari’s avowed anti-corruption stance.”

“The integrity of our judicial process and criminal justice system cannot be mortgaged on the whims and caprices of a few mischievous political interests,” the group said.

Meanwhile, the leaders of the Senate and the House of Representatives have received several petitions against Umar.

In one of the petitions, Emmanuel Onwubiko, the national coordinator of Human Rights Writers Association, noted that those people who saddled with the role of ensuring that corrupt people are brought to book should not be involved in corrupt practices themselves.
