The United Nations (UN) has promised to assist Nigeria in the fight against members of Boko Haram, saying that it will mobilise international community against the menace of the terrorist sect.
The Special Representative of the UN Secretary General for Africa, Dr Mohammed Ibn Chambers, stated this in Abuja yesterday when he visited the Minister of Interior, Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazau. He described the activities of the Boko Haram as heartbreaking and outrageous .
According to him, the incessant attacks by the terrorist group has triggered global attention and the need for maximum support for Nigeria, saying that the decision to support Nigeria will mark the beginning of the end of terror in Nigeria.
Chambers said, “The UN will fully mobilize to support Nigeria in the fight against terrorism and any other renegade behaviour that threatens the peace and stability of the country”.
He added that the UN appreciates the intrinsic link between peace, security and socio-economic development, saying that the UN envisages building a fruitful relationship with the ministry of interior and its allied agencies. He also commended the police and other paramilitary officers and men who have served and distinguished themselves at various levels in the UN.
