The Osun state chapter of the Labour Party has called on anti-graft agencies in the country to take a critical look into the malpractice allegedly perpetrated by Governor Rauf Aregbesola-led government.

The opposition party in statement issued on Sunday, November 22, by its chairman Tunji Olatunji, noted that the probe has become imperative following the inability of the state government to pay backlog of workers salaries and other problems confronting the state which he said was caused by maladministration of the APC.

Olatunji statement reads: “Our dear state is in a messy situation today and the people are messed up too through the visionless administration of Aregbesola. Many things have gone awry which now make it compelling more than ever before for the EFCC and ICPC to look seriously into the activities of the Aregbesola administration.

“We can’t continue like this. The situation is hopeless. Salaries are not being paid and everything appears to be at a standstill. Aregbesola has ruined our state and bruised the psyche of our people. Earnestly, our people are yearning for a desired change. This, we must all work towards. Enough of this deceit which has foisted untold hardship on our people.”

Reacting to this allegation, the All Progressives Congress in the state has explained that history will uphold Aregbesola’s integrity.

The party stressed that the governor has performed well contrary to what his critics are saying. The APC position was made by its director of publicity, research and strategy, Kunle Oyatomi.

He said: “History will vindicate Ogbeni Rauf Adesoji Aregbesola, regardless of what pessimists and envious critics may have to say about his tenure.

“Indeed, knowledgeable people in the country, who have seen through the quality and content of his programmes, are already giving their thumps up, especially on education.”

In a related development, the Osun state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party had insisted that Aregbesola is still withholding the bailout funds released to the state by the federal government.

The party accused the governor of keeping the funds instead of paying salaries of the state workers.
