Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers has been given approval to swear in the 20 commissioner-nominees as commissioners and members the state Executive Council after getting screened by the members of the Rivers House of Assembly today.
Following the privileges extended to former lawmakers, four of them were given some courtesies of simply taking a “bow and go.” They include: Chinyere Igwe, a former member of the House Representatives, Dr John Bazia, Boma Iyayi and Isaac Kamalu
After screening, the Speaker of Rivers House of Assembly Ikuinyi Owaji Ibani, called for vote 25 voted and none voted against the confirmation of commissioner- nominees.
When the new set of commissioner-designates are sworn in Governor Wike would have constituted 24 member state executive council as a batch of four were sworn in June 11.
Among those screened include: Professor Roseline Konya who was a former commissioner under former governor Dr. Peter Odili’s administration. Chinyere Igwe was a lawmaker representing Port Harcourt constituency in the House of Representatives, Walter Ibibia was once Okrika local government chairman and secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party in the state.
Dr John Bazia, was a two-time lawmaker in the Rivers House of Assembly representing Tai constituency.
Others include Chief Ephraim Wuzi who was once the chairman of Etche local government council and a two-time lawmaker in the state assembly.
Boma Iyayi was a lawmaker in the Rivers assembly and later commissioner for sports while Rodaford Long-John was twice chairman of Bonny local government council.
