The governing council of the Delta State University, Abraka, sacked the Provost of the Oleh campus, Professor Ben Okaba, and slapped him with a five-month suspension over alleged financial misappropriation and the assault of a staff member, among other offenses.
SaharaReporters learned that students and staff of the Oleh campus petitioned against the controversial provost for his alleged unabated misconduct, the planned relocation of the law faculty, and a complete lack of fundamental rights of individuals on the campus.
Speaking to SaharaReporters under the condition of anonymity, a senior management staff member disclosed that the provost was unable to defend himself from all of the petitions brought against him.
"There were several petitions against the provost, Professor Ben Okaba over alleged financial misappropriation and other misconducts but the provost could not defend himself convincingly and he was sacked as the provost of the Oleh campus. Sometime in September this year, the provost also allegedly assaulted one Mr. Ezekiel Otuyen, Head Cleaner/Messenger Oleh Campus." The senior staff member informed SaharaReporters.
Speaking to SaharaReporters, Mr. Otuyen, described the assault stating that Provost Okaba, “started cursing me...as he was saying these words I was looking at the ground and before I knew it he gave me a heavy slap and my ears were blocked, and he chased me away.”
As a result of the attack, Mr. Otuyen's ear began to emit pus forcing him to seek medical treatment at a hospital.
Provost Okaba ignored all calls to his phone at the time of filing.
