Federal retirees on the payroll of the Pension Transitional Arrangement Department have decried irregularities in the payment of their monthly stipends.
Some of the pensioners who presented their bank statements to our correspondent said that some retirees were not on the payroll, adding many of those enlisted were not getting their payments as and when due.
According to them, their pensions are usually delayed for months by different banks handling the payment.
They complained that when they lodged complaints to the banks, the banks often claimed that the PTAD responsible for the payment of their pensions should be blamed for not paying on time.
Some of the retirees who were earning between N5,000 and N11,000 monthly worried that they were not sure if the PTAD actually paid the banks or the banks were keeping the pensions as fixed deposit to do business.
If the PTAD actually paid the banks, they said it was its duty to ensure that the banks paid the retirees timely.
When contacted, the PTAD claimed ignorance of the problem.
A director of the PTAD, Roz Ben-Okagbue, “What I know is there was a particular bank that changed its account numbers but I am not aware that it does anything like that deliberately. The payment comes from the CBN to their accounts directly so I don’t see how they can deliberately delay their payment.”
