Ondo Assembly approves tenure elongation for LG caretakers
ONDO State House of Assembly yesterday approved the elongation of tenure of office for caretaker committee members of the 18 local councils of the state for another six months.
The approval was given during plenary presided over by Speaker Jumoke Akindele, after reading a letter from Governor Olusegun Mimiko.
A member representing Akoko North-West constituency 11, Mr Gbenga Araoyinbo moved the motion to grant the tenure extension.
He quoted Section 12 (4), 1 and 2 of the Local Government Law 2007 (as amended), saying there should be no vacuum in the administration of the local governments in the state.
Araoyinbo sought the cooperation of all members to approve the governor’s request.
The lawmaker representing Akure North Constituency, Olamide George, said there was no need to overstress the issue since democracy and governance must be sustained He seconded the motion.
