The Ondo State Government has said its trauma centre will begin kidney transplant next year, as part of measures to make the best medical centre in the country.
The centre, according to a statement on Saturday is also expected to take-off in the New Year with its Cardiac Intervention Centre, Radiotherapy and Cancer institute, as well as a purpose-built ophthalmological hospital.
The state Commissioner for Information, Kayode Akinmade, was quoted in the statement as saying the emergency surgical intervention in the country was being transformed with the state taking a leading role.
He added that the level-one trauma and surgical centre had personnel across all surgical specialists and that about 3,000 surgeries had been carried out in the yet-to-be inaugurated facility, with 2,400 dialyses done at the kidney care centre between March 2014 to date, when the facility became operational.
According to Akinmade, 1,000 new cases have been received by the health centre and it has, performed 50 spine surgeries, 350 plastic surgeries, over a thousand ophthalmological, 800,100 ENT, 100 neurological and over 400 general surgeries, among others.
