The authorities of the Ogun State Police Command described as “false and unfounded,” reports indicating that the policeman injured during a robbery operation in Agbara area of the state had been abandoned in the hospital.

The command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Muyiwa Adejobi, in a statement issued in Abeokuta on Friday, a copy of which was made available to our correspondent, said the affected Police Corporal, Godwin Ebhadoghe, was being catered for by the Police, government and the management of the bank where he was attached before the incident.

The policeman was shot by armed robbers who attacked a bank in Agbara on November 19.

The statement read in part, “The attention of the Ogun State Police Command has been drawn to a false and unfounded story in a Nigerian newspaper and social media that the affected Police Corporal, Godwin Ebhadoghe, who was shot by armed robbers that attacked a bank in Agbara area of Ogun State on 19th November, has been abandoned at the hospital.

“The command wishes to state categorically, that the story or rumour was false and baseless, as those who originated the falsehood were mischief makers and did so for reasons best known to them.

“To put the record straight, the injured policeman, since the day of the incident, has been enjoying support in all ramifications, including finances from the Police Divisional Headquarters, Agbara; the Ogun State Police Command, Eleweran, Abeokuta; the branch of the bank he was attached to before the incident, the corporate headquarters of the same bank in Lagos and the Government of Ogun State.”

Adejobi noted that the insurance section of the Nigeria Police would also get him his entitlement without delay.

According to him, the injured cop is currently recuperating at the University College Hospital, Ibadan.
