IN what appears to be another bid to save cost by government, it has been resolved that beginning from next year, officers selected for the Executive Intelligence Management Course (EIMC) would no more go for study tours beyond the shores of West African sub-region.
The Director General (DG) of the State Security Service (SSS), Lawal Daura, made this known in Abuja at the graduation ceremony of the Executive Intelligence Management Course (EIMC) 8 2015 at the weekend.
He said this is to ensure that the course content is more relevant to the peculiar security challenges of the country as they evolve around the sub-region.
According to Lawal, “the idea is to make the course contents highly responsive and reflective of the rapidly evolving character and nature of the threat profile,” as the security challenges in the sub-region are near similar and can only be effectively tackled if security managers in the country understand their complexities.
Saying, “In a effort to make the EIMC relevant to the management of our security challenges, one of the changes being contemplated is the study tours, which will now be conducted in our neighbouring countries, instead of going to strange environments. This is critical, even the trans-border character of our threat profile, ranging from Boko Haram, smuggling and proliferation of arms, human trafficking etcetera.
Since effective management of these threats need to be trans-national, it is vital that senior security managers have greater understanding of the regional players and their environment.
This also fits into the new global paradigm, where security and economic management best practices are increasingly being used,” he said.
The Minister of Defence, Mansur Dan-Ali, who was the guest of honour at the event, reiterated the need for security agencies to enhance collaboration among themselves in carrying out their constitutional duties.
