The Kaduna 2015 Hajj Task Force headed by Sani Sale, a senator, has returned $200,000 (about N40 million) to the state government.
Governor Nasir El-Rufai disclosed this on Saturday at a town hall meeting organized to deliberate on the proposed N166 billion 2016 budget.
While commending the chairman of the task force, Mr. El-Rufai reaffirmed his commitment to sanitizing governance and rolling out people-oriented programs.
On measures taken to reduce cost of governance, the governor said the state had taken measures to instill financial discipline.
“As I asked in an earlier speech, how can the political elite justify spending public resources mainly on an influential minority?
“Is it fair or justifiable that the voters should be without stake in a system that draws its legitimacy from their mandate? And this selfishness was practiced openly,” he said.
