Following media reports claiming a fresh abduction of girls at the weekend in Bam-Buratai, a community in Biu local government area of Borno State by Boko Haram insurgents, Governor Kashim Shettima on Tuesday gave a new committee three days to investigate and report. Malam Isa Gusau, the Special Adviser on Communications and Strategy to Governor Shettima, said in a statement that members of the seven-man committee were mostly indigenes of Biu, the affected local council area.
Governor Shettima, who met with the committee shortly after it was set up, advised them to deploy lawful means, including interfacing with their kinsmen in the affected community and surrounding areas, with a view to establishing all the facts concerning the reported abduction. They are to present their findings to him no later than Friday.
The committee is chaired by a member of the Borno State House of Assembly, representing Biu, Aliyu Mamman Kachalla, and has a woman, Mrs Adama Badawi, as secretary and member.
Other members are: Habib Yusuf, Engineer Baba Isa, Usman D.C. Buratai, Ibrahim Audu Miringa and Dr Hamma Adama Biu.
Governor Kashim Shettima called on all citizens to remain calm and go about their normal businesses. He said the Borno State Government was working very hard to support the security agencies and youth volunteers in a combined and very determined commitment to end the Boko Haram insurgency.
