The Peoples Democratic Party has accused the All Progressive Party of working with soldiers to intimidate its supporters in the ongoing Bayelsa State governorship election.
In a series of tweets via its official Twitter handle, the PDP alleged that its supporters in Brass and Ekeremor local government areas of the state were intimidated this morning, a development it described as completely unacceptable.
“All through the night, APC thugs escorted with soldiers went round terrorising Bayelsans. #BayelsaDecides,” the PDP tweeted around 9:30am today.
It added, “The intimidation of our party agents and supporters that took place in Brass and Ekeremor LGAs this morning is completely unacceptable.”
It also accused the Independent National Electoral Commission of failing to make adequate provisions for incident forms, noting that card reader failure was being reported across various LGA’s in the state.
The party accused APC in one of the tweets of trying to destroy the electoral gains made by the country just because it wanted to in elections at all cost.
The APC has, however, been silent on the allegations. The police could not be immediately reached for comment.
Few hours before commencement of accreditation of voters our correspondent reported that the country home of the Minister of State for Agriculture and Director-General of Sylva/Igiri campaign organisation, Sen. Heneiken Lokpobiri, was attacked by gunmen.
The Situation Room, a coalition of 70 civil society organisations, which is monitoring the election in Bayelsa, had reported one incident of ballot-snatching in Yenagoa the state capital.
