Pesident Muhammadu Buhari on Saturday appealed to China to work together with Africa to confront the threats of fresh political conflicts, terrorism and other forms of extremism; trans-border crimes; illegal arms trade; irregular migration and cybercrime.
He said without peace and security, Africa could not succeed in its development objectives.
According to a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, the President stated this in his address at the Roundtable of Chinese and African Leaders on the last day of the Johannesburg Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation.
Adesina quoted Buhari as saying that collective action was required to confront these new threats to global peace.
“These are veritable threats to peace and security and without peace and security we cannot succeed in our development objectives,” he stressed.
According to the President, China and Africa must work together to confront the above threats, as well as the challenge of climate change “for which Africa remains badly affected with severe threats to food security and social stability unacceptable levels of poverty, unemployment and youth restiveness.”
