Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, has sworn-in Mr. Abidemi Adekunle Bammeke as a Permanent Secretary in the state civil service on his last day before retirement.

Bammeke was appointed as a Permanent Secretary on Friday, December 4, the same day he was billed to retire from service.

The governor, while commenting on Bammeke’s elevation on his last day on duty, urged all public servants to be up and doing in the discharge of their duties, adding that they are being observed and their hard work will be rewarded.

Governor Amosun who stated this during the swearing-in ceremony held at the Conference Room of the Governor’s Office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, said that the 60-year-old Bammeke was the second person he would appoint as Permanent Secretary on their final day in service.

It will be recalled that Alhaja Modupe Leshi was also sworn-in as Permanent Secretary on her last day in service on January 6, 2012.

The Ogun State Governor added that Bammeke’s appointment was meant to send signals to government officials not to relent in giving their best.

“Until the last day, your hard work will not go unnoticed. We are doing this to let people know that when you work well, you are not forgotten. You are the second person I’m doing this for.

“This is to show that we appreciate your efforts and send signals that until the last day, your work will not go unnoticed,” Amosun said.

Speaking with newsmen after his swearing in, the one-day Permanent Secretary expressed appreciation to Governor Amosun for the rare opportunity, which he said, “came not only at the twilight but at the complete end of the journey.”

Bammeke seized the opportunity to urge his colleagues to be committed to service at all times.

“It is fantastic. It is a rare opportunity that one could have this, not only at the twilight but at the very end of the journey. Today, on account of age, I am statutorily leaving the service.”
