THE Lagos State Police Command has held an emergency meeting with owners of high brow hotels in the state where it urged them to be security conscious in their operations following the international alert on terrorism raised by the United States embassy in Nigeria.

Addressing newsmen yesterday at the Command Headquarters, GRA, Ikeja, Lagos, the State Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni said the alert was aimed at putting hotel owners in Lagos metropolis on their toes.

“We met with people in the hotel business. The reason is due to the concern raised by United States over terrorism. The meeting was successful and we have put measures in place to avert possible terror attack in Lagos,” he said.

The police boss also paraded hoodlums arrested by the command for various degrees of crimes in Lagos. Those paraded included 20 suspected armed robbers, five cultists, and nine suspected traffic robbers.

The police boss said eight arms and 100 ammunitions were recovered by the Command from the suspects while no fewer than 162 suspected hoodlums were also arrested during a raid across the metropolis with 82 motorcycles seized.

“Although incidents of robbery/stealing on traffic have drastically reduced, a lot still needs to be done in view of the forthcoming yuletide and the perceived threats of terrorists.

“The Command has tasked all Area Commanders and their Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) to ensure free-flow of traffic as a crime prevention strategy in their domains and constant raid of suspected criminal hideouts in their areas of responsibilities, while the Commander, Task Force, has been directed to clear street traders and commercial vehicles who impede on traffic or constitute nuisance in the area.
