RIVERS State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has said that his mandate as governor came from the people of the state who trooped out to vote for him in April this year.

Wike maintained that the acceptance his administration enjoyed had been further consolidated by the celebrations on the streets of Port Harcourt, Obio/Akpor and Ikwerre Local Government Areas during his project inspections.

The governor after inspecting school and road projects in Obio/Akpor and Port Harcourt on Saturday said he was further inspired to deliver on his covenant with the people by their appreciation of his work.

Wike assured the people that he would not be distracted, having made a commitment to serve them and ensure that they get the benefits of standing by him.

He pledged that he would drive the revival of Port Harcourt City to its logical conclusion, noting that the old Garden City would re-emerge at the end of the urban renewal programme of his administration.

He said, “The people are happy; they appreciate what we are doing for them. We want to turn Port Harcourt and its environs around and re-establish the Garden City that will be a pride of the nation.

“We will use the dry season to accomplish the revival programme within the limits of available resources. In Diobu, out of the 22 kilometres being reconstructed, we have achieved 17 kilometres. The remaining aspects of the Diobu roads have reached 70 per cent completion.

“The mandate the people freely gave to us will be utilised effectively for their wellbeing. People came out overwhelmingly and voted for us and we are doing what they want.”

Among the projects inspected by Wike are the rehabilitation of Government Girls Secondary School, Rumuokwuta, Rumuagholu road, Nkpolu road, Obiwali Street, Afikpo Street, Njemanze Street and Silverbird-UTC Junction.
