The Nigerian army has dismissed a report by members of the Shiites movement in Zaria that Zeenatudeen the wife of their leader, Sheik Ibraheem Zakzaky was killed by the military on Sunday in Zaria.
The Nigerian Army this evening in Kaduna said she is alive and under protective custody along with her husband who is believed to be injured.
The General Officer Commanding 1 Division of the Nigerian Army, Major General Adeniyi Oyebade disclosed this in a press conference.
The GOC said she was rescued with her husband in the course of the clash, a claim that goes contrary to earlier reports that Zakzaky was found in his house during the clash.
The Kaduna State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Umar Shehu also told journalists that the Muslim Shiites never sought for police permit before embarking on protestets that led to a deadly clash with Nigerian troops.
At least 100 members of the sect were murdered by troops overnights as soldiers attached the headquarters of the sect in Zaria.
