Senior Pastor, Foundation of Truth Assembly (FOTA), Rev. Yomi Kasali has attributed the longstanding war against insurgency in parts of the country to lack of truthful, transparent and moral leaders.
The cleric who stated this while addressing newsmen ahead of the Assembly’s Giant Killer’s Conference, GKC, held in Lagos, added that the country at present is not devoid of great religious, political and business men, rather of honest and ethical leaders.
He also cautioned leaders at various levels not to drag insurgency and other challenges facing the nation along religious lines, adding that embarking on such actions will further place the country at the brink of a major catastrophe, which may take years to recover from.
According to him, “I don’t believe that Boko Haram is against Christianity because it has a political ideology. This is not to say that there are some people who are trying to islamise this nation, even as we have others who are Christian fundamentalists, but the war we fight is not against any religion or tribe; it is against the continued existence of our nation.
“Our leaders need to be more open to the people, I will be bold to say that lack of leaders who are honest, transparent and open to us had been reason why we are not dealing with insurgency with the right approach. There is a lot more behind the scene of which if we want to put an end to Boko Haram the leadership of the nation not the president alone, must make plain to the masses about terrorism.
“Nigeria used to be a country where Muslims and Christians co-exist peacefully. My parents were Muslims before they died and my siblings are still Muslims up till date, we do not see ourselves as enemies.
Reflecting on alleged arms smuggling involving President of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, divorce tussle between Rev. Chris Oyakhilome of Christ Embassy and his wife and unfolding issues surrounding the collapse building at Prophet Temitope Joshua’s Synagogue Church of all Nation, SCON, he urged Nigerians not to jump into conclusion on the matters but be hopeful that all will be well.
“I was shocked as much as every other Nigerian when I got the news of a jet belonging to the man of God that was used in this transaction. But as a man of God very respected as the president of CAN, the number one Christian in the country today, we need to respect his office and be careful about the kind of statements we utter on the matter, couple with the fact that investigations are ongoing.
“For me I believe for the fact that the office has issued a statement that the jet was leased out without the prior knowledge of what it will be used for simply means that the man of God involved has dissociated himself from the entire process.
On Pastor Chris and wife he said, “I do not believe in divorce, as a church we think pastor should practice tolerance, we should live what we preach, we should preach what we live.”
