Lokoja – A grassroot sports development organisation, CAMPDAVID, has flagged off a four-day street soccer competition for youths in Lokoja, Kogi.
A statement issued in Lokoja on Sunday by the President/Founder of CAMPDAVID, Apostle Shelika Emmanuel, said that the competition was being organised in partnership with the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development.
Emmanuel said the event was the first of its kind in the history of the 23- year-old state.
He said that the street soccer championship, which is put together to commemorate the country’s 54th independence anniversary, started on Sept. 27 and would end on Oct. 1.
He said that 18 teams selected from across the three senatorial districts of the state were participating in the soccer event holding at the old township stadium in Lokoja.
Emmanuel expressed optimism that the competition would serve as a platform to promote state and national interests, particularly at this time in the nation’s history. (NAN)
