– Some protesters on Wednesday, October 5, stormed the ministry of justice in demand for the prosecution of the leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria

– The protesters also urged the federal government to cut ties with the Republic of Iran over alleged terrorism activities in Nigeria

Some protesters on Wednesday, October 5, stormed Nigeria’s federal ministry of justice over Nigerian government relationship with the Republic of Iran. The protesters who carried various placards also called for the prosecution of the leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) Ibrahim El-Zakzaky. Some of the placards read: “Prosecute El-Zakzaky now!, Stop Iran from sponsoring terrorism in our country!, We are peaceful people and IMN is a terrorist organization” among others. Speaking during the protest organized by a civil society organization, the Sovereign Rights Coalition (SRC), Daniel Obaje, the leader of the group said the IMN leader must be prosecuted for the role he played in the attack on the chief of army staff Tukur Buratai’s convoy. He also said attacks by some human rights group and western media organizations on the issue can only be described as blackmail. “It is pertinent for the immediate arraignment and prosecution of the leader of the sect on terror charges as deemed appropriate,” Obaje said. Obaje said the group has also discovered that the relationship between Nigeria and the Republic of Iran has become “cancerous” and will only be beneficial if such tie is not severed.
