– The state of federal roads in many parts of Nigeria has often given the country’s citizens something to lament about
– One of such citizens and information commissioner in Edo state, Kassim Afegbua, has tasked the federal government on the condition of roads in Lagos
The commissioner for Information in Edo state, Kassim Afegbua, has asked the federal government to stop its rhetorics and concentrate on good governance.
Afegbua said this in a message he posted on his wall on Facebook lamenting the state of the Wharf, Apapa and Tin Can Port roads in Lagos as well as the shutting down of a motion by Senator Oluremi Tinubu to accord the state a special status.
“I want to believe something unusual is wrong with us. I watched Channels tv this evening showing a documentary of the Wharf, Apapa and Tincan Port roads that looked more like uninhabited place on earth.
“When Senator Remi Tinubu talked about giving Lagos a special status, those who were more interested in the messenger rather than the message, shouted her down.
“But a deliberate intervention in the plight of Lagos is not only desirable but of utmost urgency.
“When you juxtaposed this with the unassailable fact that Lagos Port is the gateway to all manners of businesses and a huge revenue spinner for government through customs and excise duties, you will understand why we all are naughts.
“What exactly is it that we need as a nation to get our compass right. Why is it taking this government for ever to give proper attention to this road. If previous government was lacklustre, can’t this one of Baba slowdown, take the initiative?
“We need action no more rhetorics. Those roads are for all of us, hence Lagos must enjoy that special recognition. Enough of pussyfooting,” he said.
