As threatened recently, Pastor Osaie Ize-Iyamu, the defeated candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the just-concluded governorship election in Edo state, has led a massive protest against the result of the exercise which favoured Godwin Obaseki of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Since the final result of the election was announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (EFCC) on September 29, supporters of Pastor Ize-Iyamu have led various protests in Benin, the state capital while Governor Adams Oshiomhole and his APC supporters have continued to celebrate.
While addressing the crowd of supporters at the city centre, Ize-Iyamu thanked them for standing by him and for being peaceful throughout the exercise. He insisted that his mandate was stolen and that this was the reason the APC cannot come out publicly to celebrate its victory. Being a pastor, he said he actually asked God to whether to forgo the election and face his life, but “I heard Him clearly asking me to pursue and recover all without fail.” He vowed to therefore pursue his stolen mandate till it is returned to him.
