– The book authored by Professor John Paden has opened up another personal aspect of President Muhammadu Buhari
– The president believes that even if his family members are found to be corrupt, they have to face the law
– It was also revealed that the president encouraged Ibrahim Magu, the EFCC boss, to accept his present anti-graft role
The recently-released book, ‘Muhammadu Buhari, The challenges of leadership in Nigeria’ is already exposing quite a number of the president’s traits, it has emerged.
One of such traits is the fact that the Nigerian leader has vowed not to forgive the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is his corrupt children are not probed.
Reactions have already started trailing the contents of the book authored by Professor John Paden, as it some of them were described as lies.
President Buhari with his children L-R: Miss Zahra Buhari, Yusuf Buhari and Halimat Buhari Sherriff as he celebrates them on their graduation and Call to Bar in Statehouse on July 14, 2016. He has asked EFCC to probe them if found guilty.
Femi Fani-Kayode, one of President Buhari’s biggest critics, stated that the truth about the president was not told by Paden who often uses lies for his public relations antics.
But in another revelation gotten from the book, it was gathered that the president would not spare the anti-graft agency for leaving any of his family members who has any corruption allegation.
“Buhari’s attitude is to let the chips fall where they may in particular cases, although reform of the judiciary is one of his larger goals.
“Buhari has often said that if any of his own children were accused of corruption, and the authorities did not investigate, he would never forgive the authorities,” the book stated.
Also, his close ‘pals’ in the All Progressives Congress (APC) are said not to be free as the president often encourages political officials to carry out their duties without fear.
The book stated further: “On numerous occasions, Buhari has urged public officials to do their duty without fear or favour. He has also tried to inspire younger generations to regard public service as an honest calling.
“For example, the current acting head of EFCC, Ibrahim Magu was a schoolboy in Borno when Buhari was military governor in 1975. Buhari gave a talk to a group of boys that included Magu and urged them to do their best.
“Magu was inspired and became a professional policeman.
“In 2015, Buhari asked Magu to head the EFCC, a dangerous job if done well. By mid-May 2016, Magu had secured 143 convictions of corrupt officials.”
In chapter 15 of the book, which focuses on ‘Military Procurement Accountability’, Professor Paden also stated that the president believes in confronting to the end any act of corruption that will undermine the integrity of the Nigerian army, therefore the calls by ECOWAS for the release of Sambo Dasuki, the former national security adviser may fall on deaf ears.
“For Buhari who has said openly that he wants to be remembered for fighting corruption, it will be an unmitigated disaster for his legacy if such a gargantuan fleecing went on in his primary constituency, the military, and he failed to unearth it and punish the culprits.
“Buhari knows that Task Force and Division Commanders knew of and approved these arms purchases; Service Chiefs knew too; Ministers of Defence and Finance knew; Chief of Staff knew; civil servants in the Ministries of Defence and Finance knew, Chief of Staff to the President knew; the Vice President knew; and the President knew. It is why Buhari will keep his foot on Dasuki’s throat until he fesses up,” he wrote.
