An Ogun lawmaker, Mr Yinka Folarin, on Wednesday called on Governor Ibikunle Amosun to sign the state anti-land grabbing bill into law.
In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Abeokuta, Folarin urged Amosun to give immediate assent to the bill recently passed by the Ogun State House of Assembly.“The House Committee for the Defence of Human Rights is seeking an accelerated assent by the governor to enable it become enforceable,’’ said Folarin, who was chairman of the committee.
He said the “long awaited’’ bill would protect the rights of the people and also put an end to unimaginable communal disputes.
“The bill will protect the human rights of the people; bring an end to the unimaginable communal disputes and fraudulent activities of some traditional rulers, the ‘Ajagungbales’ and security operatives.
“All these people are in the business of defrauding people of their hard-earned money under the guise of selling landed properties and unlawful arrests,” the lawmaker said.
He commended the House for passing the bill, saying that it was geared towards dealing decisively with the peculiar problems confronting human rights protection in the state.
“The bill will protect the right to ownership of landed properties and peaceful coexistence in the state,” Folarin said.
