– Some Chibok girls have decided to stay with their Boko Haram captors as negotiation continues

– Some terrorists also insisted that they would be killed if they return to Boko Haram’s enclave

– About 104 Chibok girls have expressed interest in returning to their parents

With negotiation between the federal government and Boko Haram to resume on Monday, October 17, 104 more girls have expressed interest in returning to their parents.

More than 200 girls were kidnapped from their schools in Chibok, Borno state in 2014 and while some of them have been reported dead, 21 of them were returned on Thursday, October 13.

Daily Trust reports that a source revealed that 104 girls are willing to return while the rest have chosen to stay with their captors.

“The 21 that returned were among the 104. The rest said they have ‘accepted Islam’ and have already gotten married to some Boko Haram commanders and leaders.

“And during the negotiation, Shekau said he will not compel any of the girls to renounce their new found religion and love.”
Like some of the girls who don’t wish to return, it was revealed that some Boko Haram fighters also chose not to return to Abubakar Shekau, the leader of Boko Haram.

Negotiators reportedly told Shekau that some of his commanders in detention were not ready to return to him which was why he accepted a huge ransom.

“It was based on this that he agreed to collect ransom.”

Some of the terrorists expressed fear that Shekau may not trust them again and can kill them if they return.

Other claimed they had been radicalised and would not return to terrorism.

“In fact, the reason why some of the Boko Haram commanders in custody could not be released to rejoin their families is because of fear of stereotype by the larger society.
“They have been de-radicalized after they were subjected to superior argument by clerics deployed by government while in custody.”
