The Kogi state House of Assembly has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to declare Kogi an oil producing state.
The lawmakers said the federal government must accord the state its rightful status as an oil producing state, Vanguard reports.
This plea comes after an oil exploration in two communities – Echeno and Udeke both in Ibaji local government area of Kogi state.
Following the adoption of a motion moved by John Abah of Ibaji constituency, the lawmakers in the state said the federal government must speedily act on the demands of the people of Kogi.
“Late Prince Audu Abubakar, the former governor of Kogi State, on July 18, 2001, conveyed a letter to the Group Managing Director of NNPC, notifying the corporation of discovery of crude oil in Ibaji local government area,” the motion read in part.
“He also requested NNPC to carry out a thorough investigation to determine the extent of the deposit. Even though the preliminary investigation carried out by NNPC was not published, it is no longer in doubt that there is oil deposit in Ibaji Local Government Area.
“Orient Petroleum Resources Limited even made three offers to Kogi State government,” the motion said.
Meanwhile, on Thursday, November 10, a millionaire robber arrested by the Nigeria police said he was supposed to become the chief security officer to the late All Progressives Congress flag bearer for Kogi state Audu Abubakar.
The robber, Zakeri Isiaka said his dream was cut short after the death of Prince Audu Abubakar who had promised him the position.
