President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday arrived Yenagoa the Bayelsa State capital ahead of today’s ward congress of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
Dr. Jonathan was received at the Bayelsa Government House helipad at about 1.50pm by Governor Seriake Dickson, his wife, Dr. (Mrs.) Rachael Dickson, the deputy governor, Rear Admiral John Gboribiogha Jonah (rtd), state chairman of the PDP, Col Sam Inokoba (rtd) and other top government functionaries.
The President was accompanied by his wife, Dame Patience Jonathan, King Amalate Turner and President of Azikel Group, Dr. Azibapu Eruani.
Security operatives were deployed at strategic locations and on the major roads in the capital city apparently to coordinate traffic as the President is expected to travel by road to his hometown at Otuoke in Ogbia local government area of the state.
The President is expected to attend the state PDP ward congress slated for today (Saturday).
Party chieftains are also expected to use the visit of the President to resolve some contentious issues rocking the party such as zoning.
Saturday Vanguard learnt that no fewer than one hundred and forty four aspirants have picked and submitted their expression of interest and nomination forms for the 24 member state house of assembly under the platform of the party.
Also, seventeen aspirants, including the incumbents representing the five federal constituencies, it was learnt, have indicated interest in contesting for the party ticket for the 2015 polls.
Saturday Vanguard check also revealed that fourteen aspirants including the incumbent senators have indicated interest to contest the senate positions for the three senatorial seats in the National Assembly..
