By Henry Umoru & Levinus Nwabughiogu
Abuja—THERE was a flurry of activities yesterday as politicians took practical steps towards actualizing their 2015 political ambitions.
Founder of the Leadership Newspapers Group and a leading presidential aspirant, Mr. Sam Nda-Isaiah, obtained the presidential nomination forms of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Abuja at a brief ceremony where he charged Nigerians to join forces to rescue the country.
Also, a host of governorship and senatorial aspirants on the plank of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, returned their forms to the party to beat tomorrow’s deadline for the submission of the forms.
Among those who returned their forms yesterday were Governor Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom State (Senatorial, Akwa Ibom); Honourable Victor Ochei (Governorship, Delta); Alhaji Hazeem Gbolarunmi (governorship, Oyo); Alhaji Musa Nashuni (governorship, Katsina); Senator Mohammed Magoro (governorship, Kebbi).
It’s time to rescue Nigeria –Nda-Isaiah
Picking his forms at APC’s National Secretariat, in Abuja, Nda-Isaiah who formally declared his presidential ambition in Minna, Niger State capital, on Tuesday, said it was time to rescue Nigeria.
He also stated his readiness to support a rancour free primaries of the party.
He said: “Nigeria is just four months away from change and everything has to be done, all hands have to be on deck. Everybody must be mobilized, all Nigerians must ensure that we rescue our country.”
He assured APC National Chairman, Chief John Oyegun: “We are going to work by the rules. We are going to ensure that it (APC presidential primary) comes out well without any rancour in the interest of our party and this nation because we know how important it is for our party to win the next election. “We are doing it on December 8th and we have promised it is going to be rancour free. We will all support whoever eventually emerges. But I intend to win.’’
Responding, the APC national chairman described Nda-Isaiah as a trail blazer and wished him luck in his presidential aspiration.
Elumelu to submit form today, as Obuh declares
Meanwhile, another Delta State governorship aspirant, Ndudi Elumelu will submit his form today. He told Vanguard that his supporters are very enthusiastic about the prospects of his contesting in the November 20 primaries and expressed optimism that he will get the ticket.
Elumelu will face a horde of aspirants for the PDP ticket, which includes Sir Tony Obuh, who will formally declare his governorship ambition today in Asaba.
The event, which will hold at the Cenotaph is expected to attract political heavyweights in politics from the state and beyond.
“I do know that whatever is happening now between the Senate and the party (PDP) or the presidency remains internal affairs of the PDP which we will resolve as a family. There is no reason why anybody should be precluded from showing interest in any position or from having any ambition on the account of his position as a senator or as a governor,” Obuh said.
With ingenuity, I’ll raise Delta IGR – Ochei
Also speaking after submitting his forms, former Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly and a PDP governorship aspirant, Honourable Victor Ochei said he would bring on board his ingenuity to help raise the revenue base of Delta state.
Ochei, who hailed last Saturday’s Ward Congress against the backdrop that it was held in an atmosphere that was rancour free, said, “We all agree and sat down together, and each local government raised their delegates and we are all happy with the way it was conducted.”
